The Story & Purpose of OFSIF
A living framework born from decades of scholarship, industry practice and a vision to reunite Islamic finance with its ethical and civilizational roots.
Why OFSIF Was Created
The Onike Framework for Strategic Islamic Finance (OFSIF) emerged from a recognition that Islamic finance had become rich in products but impoverished in purpose. Decades of rapid growth produced ṣukūk, Islamic banks and takaful windows — yet the deeper question remained: are these instruments genuinely advancing the maqāṣid (higher objectives) of Sharī‘ah?
Imam Abdul-Azeez Onike, M. — Registered Shariah Adviser with the Securities Commission Malaysia — spent over two decades bridging classical fiqh, engineering management and strategic leadership. That intersection became the seedbed for OFSIF: a framework that treats Islamic finance not as a niche product line, but as a civilizational project requiring strategy, ethics, technology and institutional wisdom.
OFSIF was formally articulated after years of advisory work with regulators, banks, fintechs and civil society organisations across Malaysia, Nigeria, the Gulf and Southeast Asia. It distills field-tested insights into a coherent system that scholars, practitioners and policymakers can use together.
"Finance without ethics is merely transaction. Finance with maqāṣid is civilization."
— Imam Abdul-Azeez Onike, M.
