Day 25 — Be Merciful

Mercy is a sign of strength, not weakness. The merciful heart heals what arrogance and anger would only break.

Daily Morning Devotion with Imam Onike — Day 25: Be Merciful
“The merciful will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on the earth, and the One in the heavens will have mercy upon you.”
— Hadith
Devotion

A Threefold Reflection

From insight, to imagery, to supplication.

Reflection

Live today in a way that pleases Allah. Mercy is the language of the strong — those secure enough in faith to choose compassion over retaliation.

Metaphor — The Gentle Healer

A merciful person is like a skilled doctor treating a wounded patient. The doctor does not become angry at the patient for being sick; instead, he seeks to heal. In the same way, believers view the mistakes of others as opportunities for compassion and guidance.

Lesson: Mercy seeks restoration, not revenge.

Prayer

“O Allah, fill my heart with mercy, soften my character, forgive my shortcomings, and make me a source of comfort and kindness to Your creation.”
Muḥāsabah

Self-Examination

Mercy is revealed in how we treat those who have wronged us, disagreed with us, or depend on us.

Ask yourself honestly

  1. 1

How do I react when people make mistakes against me? Do I seek revenge immediately, or do I look for opportunities to forgive?

  2. 2

Am I more concerned about being right or being merciful? In disagreements, do I prioritise winning the argument or preserving hearts and relationships?

  3. 3

How do I treat people who are weaker, younger, older, poorer, or dependent on me? Would they describe me as compassionate, patient, and understanding?
