Day 26 — Control Anger

Anger destroys wisdom and relationships. The strong believer is the one who masters himself in a moment of rage.

Daily Morning Devotion with Imam Onike — Day 26: Control Anger
“The strong man is not one who wrestles well, but the strong man is one who controls himself when he is in a fit of rage.”
— Hadith
Devotion

A Threefold Reflection

From insight, to imagery, to supplication.

Reflection

Strong believers control themselves in moments of anger. True strength is not in physical force, but in the discipline to pause, breathe and respond with wisdom rather than react in heat.

Metaphor — The Boiling Pot

An angry heart is like a pot left boiling without a lid. As the heat increases, the contents spill over and create a mess. Similarly, when anger is not controlled, it spills over into our words and actions, hurting ourselves and others.

Lesson: Cover the pot — restrain the tongue, lower the heat.

Prayer

“O Allah, grant me emotional discipline, protect me from the evil of anger, fill my heart with patience and wisdom, and help me respond with dignity, mercy, and self-control.” Aamiin.
Cure for Anger

Change Your Posture

A prophetic prescription — simple, physical, profound.

“If one of you is angry while he is standing, let him sit down so his anger will leave him; otherwise, let him lie down.”
— Hadith
Muḥāsabah

Self-Examination

Anger is revealed in the words we speak and the actions we take when we are no longer in control.

Ask yourself honestly

  1. 1

When I become angry, do my words and actions please Allah?

  2. 2

Would I be comfortable if Allah took my soul while I was speaking or acting in that state?
