Day 22 — Be Content

Contentment is the wealth of the heart.

Daily Morning Devotion with Imam Onike — Day 22: Be Content
“Richness is not having many possessions; rather, true richness is the richness of the soul.”
— Hadith (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)
Devotion

A Fourfold Reflection

From insight, to imagery, to honest self-recognition, to supplication.

Reflection

Some people possess much yet constantly feel deprived, while others possess little but live with peace and gratitude. True wealth begins when the heart recognizes the value of what Allah has already provided.

Metaphor — The Leaking Bucket

No matter how much water is poured into a bucket full of holes, it will never remain filled until the holes are repaired. Likewise, no amount of wealth, recognition, or worldly success can satisfy a heart that is leaking through constant comparison, greed, and ingratitude.

Lesson: Repair the heart’s holes — envy, greed, and comparison — before seeking more.

Self-Examination (Muḥāsabah)

Am I seeking more because it will help me serve Allah better, or because I am competing with others?

Prayer

“O Allah, grant me a contented heart, a grateful tongue, and a peaceful soul. Place barakah in what You have provided for me, protect me from greed and unhealthy comparison, and make me pleased with Your wisdom while striving for what is good. Aamiin.”
